When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that specific service provider. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically as soon as the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain address where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they reveal the server that deals with the emails for that particular domain address. The site and the email hosting are usually perceived as one thing, when they are actually two different services. Having independent records for them will allow you to have them with different companies if you would like. For example, some new service provider could have exceptional uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain to the former and MX records to have the emails with the latter, you can get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a website or send an email - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the Internet domain is going to be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed website or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account through our company and you would like to switch either your site or your emails to an alternative company, it is going to take you literally just 2 clicks to do so. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you change or create will not take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will stay active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated packages, will allow you to view the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to edit any of them or set up new ones. Handling these records is incredibly easy as all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes only a few more clicks and in case you experience any issues, you can check out our video tutorials on how to create A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you full control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are moving your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you may choose the priority of each one.
